El Cedral comes from fifth-generation producer Marvin Monge Valverde, who inherited his farm from his grandfather 30 years ago.
Today, Marvin and his sons tend the land and trees, which are a mix of Bourbon, Caturra, and Catuai. The land is under constant renovation and improvement, as Marvin and his sons— self described “coffee lovers”— seek to produce better coffee.
This coffee was black-honey processed — a honey style that requires the greatest length of time, with the beans often slowly dried under shade. Black honey requires constant monitoring and an experienced miller.
Cupping notes: Honey, lemon vanilla and berry. Creamy body, citric and mild acidity.
I am a big fan of coffee from Cost Rica because it typically has the type of flavor I enjoy. I think that is what coffee should taste like. This version looked good on paper, so I gave it a try. I must say I was completely blown away by the taste! The flavor is so smooth and perfect that I find it to be THE BEST Costa I ever had. Thanks to Aroma Ridge for finding this great coffee!
Tired of coffee that all tastes the "same"? I would give this a try. It is slightly different and the honey is VERY slight yet NOT SWEET AT ALL. This is real coffee, perfectly roasted, very flavorful with a hint of a non-sweetened honey taste. Unique....in a good way!
