Story of Hanna Orphans' Home (HOH):
Founded in 1994 by Hanna Teshome, HOH in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, represents the vision and compassion of a remarkable woman. Hanna's dedication to helping homeless, parentless children has blossomed into a network of caring environments. Over the years, HOH and its dedicated house-mothers have welcomed over 800 orphans, offering them a nurturing community-based housing model.
HOH uses a unique hub-and-spoke system ensures each child lives in a homely setting, grouped by age and gender, with their own house-mothers, fostering a sense of family and belonging. The central compound, a cornerstone of HOH's design, serves as a communal area for play, learning, and social interaction. This setup ensures the children are not just in an orphanage but in a home, within walking distance from local schools and essential amenities.
Most of the orphans at HOH have tragically lost their parents to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, highlighting the essential role HOH plays in their lives. By providing a stable, secure, and loving environment, HOH nurtures not only the physical well-being of these children but also their emotional and intellectual growth. Hanna Orphans’ Home stands as a beacon of hope and care, embodying the spirit of community and the power of compassion.
